Feathercap was a fey man and guardian to Morwenna Bloom. He posed for years to be an ally to the fairies that protected Tanya Fairchild, but had secretly been plotting with Morwenna to orchestrate the switching of her and Tanya to free Morwenna from the fairy realm. Feathercap is killed by Tanya's dog Oberon.

Biography[]

Feathercap's origin is unknown, his name being deriven for the cap and feather he always wore. Feathercap was a guardian due to ancestral links to the changeling trade and was Morwenna's guardian up until his death. Feathercap says that he stayed behind after Morwenna willingly ran away to the fairy realm and it is implied that he first allied himself to Elvesden Manor after Tanya was born to prime her to be Morwenna's replacement. Warwick mentioned to Red how he was hired to keep fairies who wished Tanya harm at bay, whether these fairies were encouraged to go after her by Feathercap is unknown. He also appeared to allied to the fairies of Hangman's Wood, standing with them as they tried to take Tanya into the fairy realm.

One Wish[]

Feathercap appears to Tanya with the fey to discourage her conversations with Henry Hanratty, expressing disgust at the Mitzhog's diet. He later appears as a human to Mrs Fairchild, in an odd guise of a cap and 1920s tweed suit. He falls under the enchantment Tanya casts to distract the fairies, brushing off their odd prescence in Shell Cottage after awaking. He is noticeably absent from Tanya's near death experience with Nessie Needleteeth, with only Raven and Gredin coming to her aid.

13 Treasures[]

Feathercap appears to Tanya alongside the other fey to reprimand her for attempting to write about the fairies, to expose their existence. He enchants her diary to be lifted from it's buried spot to expose her deceit to them after she initally denies writing one. Unbeknownst to Tanya, he begins to orchestrate a mystery for Tanya to solve, luring her into a trap, stealing a press cutting from Amos' room for Tanya to find, making her interested in the disappearance of Morwenna Bloom. In a fairy glamour, he pretends to be a Antiques Dealer and buy a compass off of Tanya that Morag had given her to make her want to keep it, a device she would use in Hangman's Wood. After the death of the Draindweller, Feathercap explodes with rage at Tanya for the death of one of his kind. During this, he reveals to her that the charms on the charm bracelet that had once belonged to Elizabeth Elvesden held a power over the creature, accusing Tanya of tempting it with the "lure" of the Thirteen Treasures, revealing to her that the charms on the bracelet are directly linked the story of the fairy courts Red had told her before. After Raven and Gredin reprimand him for telling her this information about the fairy realm, he brushes them off and proceeds to punish Tanya, using the painting above her bed of Echo and Narcissus as inspiration, and making her only repeat the last few words of other people's sentences.

Tanya later finds a poem describing the disappearance of Morwenna Bloom that Feathercap secretly wrote. He reveals himself to Tanya at the same time Raven informs Fabian and Warwick that Feathercap was the traitor. He tells Tanya that he was the one who left her newspaper cutting, the poem and the man who pretended to want to buy the compass. He is killed by Oberon after noticing Red moving through the trees.

Appearance[]

Feather was a plump short fey man, with a 'ratty' moustache, a ruddy nose who wore a cap with a peacock feather. He also appeared to Tanya wearing a large hat, and on another occasion wearing an out of date tweed suit and cap.

Personality[]

Feathercap was a cruel, vindictive and untrustworthy fey. He was capable of manipulating people, encouraging Tanya and Fabian to solve the mystery of the disappearing girl. He was also not above stealing, taking a press clipping from Amos' room. He was loyal to Morwenna, whether or not he dissuaded or encouraged her to go into the fairy realm is unknown. He supported her decision to try and leave, hsing unscrupulous means to do so, again, whether or not he gave her the idea or encouraged her kidnapping of Tanya's mother was unknown. Mentioned briefly in The Thirteen Curses, a fey attempted to kidnap Tanya, so whether or not he or Morwenna encouraged this is also unknown. Standing with the fairies of Hangman's Wood, he was probably just as chaotic and sadistic as they were as they gleefully anticipated the switch between Tanya and Morwenna.

Powers and Abilities[]

Feathercap appeared to ba very powerful fey, ysing the feather from his cap to draw on hisnpower. He was able to manipulate things from different places to levitate through the air with Tanya's diary, and conjured Oberon into Tanya's wardrobe to create a commotion. He was however, susceptible to the practicality of the human world, dying at the behest of Oberon the dog.
